E BASIC A site used when the wind is over the back at Porterville.

Walk uphill from the cars, over the fence and about 50m up through the bush where you'll find a small cleared area. Any of the uncultivated fields close to the road at the base of the pass. Beware of power lines and telephone lines which cross some of the left fields. Take the N1 towards Paarl, turn left onto the N7, and drive to Piketberg. Enter the town via the first turning, and drive through town, exiting on the northern end. After 1 km turn left at the signboard 'Versveld Pass'. Park, on the cutaway to the left just after the last tight hairpin turn. ceiling 450m ASL (military), 2100m ASL (commercial). PERMISSION: none needed. � An Easterly wind can sometimes be a 'berg wind', with associated gusts, turbulence, and dust-devils. Take care that you do not under-estimate the wind speed, as it can be very strong aloft. � If the wind swings to southerly, the gully in front of launch produces wicked turbulence.
